Swiss Cinnamon Bread

Ingredients:

1 pkg. active dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water
1/2 cup milk
2 tabsp. sugar
2 eggs
3 cups all purpose flour

Cinnamon & Sugar:
1/4 cup sugar blended with 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon.

Directions:

  1. Sprinkle yeast into warm water. Stir until dissolved.
  2. Heat milk and butter until butter melts. Pour into a large mixing bowl. Add sugar and salt. Cool to luke-warm. Stir in yeast mixture.
  3. Beat in eggs, one at a time. Gradually beat in enough flour to make a soft dough.
  4. Turn out on a floured board. Knead until smooth and satiny.
  5. Place in greased bowl. Butter top of dough lightly. Cover with kitchen towel. Let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 1/2 hours.
  6. Turn out on floured board, knead lightly.
  7. Cut into 3 pieces. Roll each piece between the palms of your hands, making strips about 10 inches long. Roll strips in Cinnamon & Sugar.
  8. Place sugared strips on buttered baking sheet and braid. Tuck end under braid.
  9. Cover and let rise until doubled in size.
  10. Bake at 350 for 30-35 min. until golden brown.
